The Heart of West Virginia: Exploring Its Geographic Center
West Virginia may have a unique shape that can make it a bit tricky to pinpoint, but like every other state, it has its own geographic center.
The geographic center of West Virginia is situated within the Elk River Wildlife Management Area, near Sutton in Braxton County. While the exact center isn’t marked, there is a nearby marker designating the location at the intersection of Old Turnpike Road and Centralia Road in Tesla.
The Elk River Wildlife Management Area is open year-round, offering visitors activities such as hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, and more.
In addition to its geographic significance, Braxton County is known for its paranormal history, including sightings of the legendary Flatwoods Monster.
