Marshalls and TJ Maxx Confirm 24-Hour Closure for Thanksgiving Retail Blackout

According to The Sun , Marshalls shoppers, mark your calendars! The off-price retailer announced it will close all 1,200 stores across the nation for 24 hours this Thanksgiving. This retail “blackout” will take place on November 28, as Marshalls joins the growing list of retailers shutting their doors for the holiday.

The decision allows employees to enjoy time with family, celebrating Thanksgiving along with millions of Americans. While Marshalls locations will be closed on Thursday, eager shoppers can return early on Black Friday—stores are set to open at 7 AM. However, customers shouldn’t expect exclusive Black Friday discounts, as Marshalls offers its discounted prices year-round on a wide range of merchandise, including apparel, homeware, jewelry, and beauty products. Brand-name and designer goods at Marshalls are typically priced 20% to 60% lower than at traditional department stores, a pricing policy shared by its sister brand, TJ Maxx. Like Marshalls, all TJ Maxx stores will close for Thanksgiving but will also open at 7 AM on Black Friday.

Thanksgiving Closures Extend Across Major Retailers

Marshalls and TJ Maxx are among many retailers observing Thanksgiving by closing for the day. Major chains such as Bath & Body Works, Best Buy, Macy’s, JCPenney, Home Depot, Walmart, and Target will also remain closed on November 28.

For those who still want to shop on Thanksgiving, a handful of stores will be open. Many CVS locations will operate with regular hours, and most Rite Aid stores will also be open. Big Lots will serve customers from 7 AM to 9 PM, while Family Dollar is expected to open from 9 AM to 9 PM, based on last year’s schedule. Bass Pro Shops will be available from 9 AM to 6 PM, and many Old Navy stores plan to open at 3 PM.

Plan Ahead for Grocery Shopping Needs

Grocery shoppers are also encouraged to prepare ahead, as many grocery stores will close for Thanksgiving. Publix, with over 1,300 locations, confirmed all stores will be closed. Similarly, BJ’s Wholesale Club announced that its 210 stores will also remain closed for the holiday.
