Southern Nevada and parts of Arizona are preparing for an early taste of winter, as unseasonably cool and gusty weather is expected to persist through Thursday. The National Weather Service has issued warnings for the first freezes of the season tonight, with widespread wind gusts ranging from 30-50 mph already recorded, particularly in southern Nye County, Clark County, and the Colorado River Valley. Wind advisories are in effect until 10 a.m. today, though strong winds will continue, especially in the Laughlin and Mohave Valley regions, where gusty conditions are expected to last through Thursday.
Temperatures will be 10-15 degrees below normal, with many areas struggling to reach 70°F. Freezes are forecasted in parts of eastern Inyo, southern Nye, northwestern Clark, and central Mohave counties, prompting the issuance of Freeze Warnings for these regions starting tonight. While temperatures may gradually warm on Thursday, the cooler-than-usual conditions are likely to persist through the weekend.
