A Florida man was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly assaulting two women during a political dispute at a polling location. Stuart McMillan, 71, was involved in a verbal altercation with the women at approximately 12:30 p.m. at the Fishhawk Ranch polling station in Lithia, Florida. According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), McMillan escalated the argument by pulling one of the women’s flags to the ground and grabbing her by the throat and hair. When another woman tried to intervene, McMillan allegedly grabbed her by the throat as well.
While the sheriff’s office did not specify which political candidates the parties supported, Rep. Danny Alvarez, who witnessed the incident, said the women were holding flags supporting Vice President Kamala Harris, while McMillan was waving a Donald Trump flag. The altercation reportedly began with the women and McMillan fighting with their flags before the alleged physical confrontation.
The incident took place near the Palmetto Club at the Fishhawk Ranch polling site, where the victims and McMillan were exercising their right to vote. Sheriff Chad Chronister emphasized that the community values respect and understanding, even when opinions differ, and condemned the violent behavior. McMillan was charged with two counts of battery and arrested without incident.
