A two-vehicle crash involving an impaired driver resulted in injuries to a woman and necessitated a MEDEVAC on Saturday evening, November 2, 2024.
The incident occurred shortly after 8:00 p.m. at the intersection of Take It Easy Ranch Road and Piney Point Road in Callaway. Emergency responders arrived to find two vehicles severely damaged and a woman in her late 20s requiring urgent medical attention. First responders indicated that one male driver appeared to be impaired.
Firefighters established a landing zone for Maryland State Police, Trooper 7, which airlifted the injured woman to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center for further treatment. No other injuries were reported from the crash.
St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a Field Sobriety Test on the male driver, identified as 24-year-old Samuel Alexander Labeach from Lexington Park. Labeach failed the test and was subsequently taken into custody. He faces several charges, including:
- Driving while impaired by alcohol
- Driving under the influence of alcohol per se
- Failure to obey properly placed traffic control devices
- Reckless driving
- Negligent driving
Following his arrest, Deputy Reppel transported Labeach to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center. He was later released on an unsecured personal bond of $3,500 on November 4.
Labeach is scheduled to appear for a court hearing on December 19, 2024, at the St. Mary’s District Courthouse. There have been no further updates regarding the condition of the injured woman at this time, but additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
