Two brothers were tragically shot and killed outside their home in Houston, Texas, as they tried to protect their neighbor from her enraged boyfriend, who ultimately turned the gun on himself, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Edward Lopez-Robles, 50, and Luis Lopez-Robles, 31, were at home on Friday night when their neighbor, accompanied by her two teenage sons, sought refuge following a domestic altercation with her boyfriend, identified as Carlos Guerra. The woman and her sons fled into the Lopez-Robles brothers’ home for safety, but Guerra followed them.
When Guerra arrived and knocked on the door, the brothers went outside to try to keep him away from the woman. In response, Guerra opened fire, fatally wounding both men. A third brother then came out armed to protect his siblings, engaging in a shootout with Guerra. Afterward, Guerra retreated to his home, where he took his own life.
The woman, her children, and the third brother survived without injuries and are fully cooperating with Harris County officials. Authorities noted that just days earlier, there had been a family violence report involving Guerra, though specific details of that incident were not disclosed.
Neighbor Alberto Hernandez shared his sorrow and shock over the tragic events, saying he was devastated to see his neighbors’ bodies at the scene. “I haven’t been able to sleep,” he shared. “It was 3 in the morning, and their bodies were still lying on the ground.”
