According to News Week, Green onions are being recalled after a product sample was found to be contaminated with salmonella, a bacteria that can cause serious or fatal infections in certain populations.
Details of the Recall
Church Brothers is voluntarily recalling 1,271 cases of green onions sold under the brands Church Brothers, Imperial Fresh, and Trader Joe’s due to fears of contamination. The bacteria was detected in a product sample by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, which subsequently reported the findings to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The recall was announced on Friday, October 18.
The affected products were distributed to stores and food-service customers in Canada and 11 states across the U.S., including:

Health Risks Associated with Salmonella
Salmonella is known to cause serious and sometimes fatal reactions among vulnerable groups, including young children, elderly adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Common symptoms of food poisoning caused by salmonella include:

- Diarrhea
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Abdominal pain
As of now, no illnesses connected to this recall have been reported to Church Brothers Farms. The FDA stated that the company is actively working with customers to ensure swift compliance with the recall.

Consumers who find the recalled green onions in their kitchens are advised to discard them immediately and not consume them. The affected products can be identified by the lot code CB272378, which is printed on the front of the clear plastic bag packaging for items sold under the Church Brothers or Imperial Fresh brands. For the green onions sold at Trader Joe’s, the same lot code is located on the back of the package, along with the pack date 092524.
