A recall has been issued for Taiwan Enoki mushrooms by HH Fresh Trading Corp due to concerns over potential listeria contamination. The California-based company reported that these mushrooms, distributed in various retail locations in West Virginia, were sold on August 20 and August 23, with a total of 240 cases affected for each date.
The recalled mushrooms are packaged in 200-gram clear plastic containers, identifiable by the barcode #4711498860019 on the back. While no illnesses related to this product have been reported so far, health officials are advising consumers to either discard the mushrooms or return them for a refund.
The recall follows routine testing by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which detected the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in samples of the mushrooms. Consequently, HH Fresh Trading has suspended production while both the company and the FDA investigate the contamination source.

Listeria is a resilient bacterium that poses significant health risks, particularly to vulnerable populations, including pregnant women, the elderly, newborns, and individuals with weakened immune systems. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), listeria infections can lead to severe complications and are responsible for about 1,600 foodborne illness cases and approximately 260 deaths annually in the U.S. Symptoms may manifest within 24 hours to several weeks after exposure, complicating the identification of the contamination source.
This incident is part of a series of listeria-related food safety recalls in the U.S. this year. Recent examples include the recall of frozen waffles by TreeHouse Foods and a significant deli meat recall by Boar’s Head, which has resulted in numerous hospitalizations and fatalities linked to listeria outbreaks
