According to The Sun, Costco has unveiled a new store in Napa Valley, drawing wine enthusiasts eager to explore an unmatched selection. This latest location boasts Costco’s largest wine collection nationwide, alongside rare spirits like premium tequila and whiskey. Hundreds of shoppers lined up to experience the offerings firsthand.
Napa Store’s Impressive Wine and Spirits Selection
Tim Stone, the general manager of the Napa Costco, shared his excitement about the vast selection: “The wine selection is insane,” he told Napa Valley Features. Having transferred from a Costco in Lodi, Stone noted a significant increase in options. “Here in Napa, we have over 174 SKUs, almost double of what we had in Lodi,” he said. The expansive variety has made the new Costco a destination for wine lovers.
Savvy Shoppers Decode Costco’s Pricing Secrets
Beyond wine, experienced Costco shoppers are always on the lookout for pricing clues that signal upcoming sales. Recently, a Reddit user shared a picture of two different prices on a refrigerator, prompting questions about Costco’s pricing codes.
Fellow shoppers quickly explained that pricing ending in “.97” indicates clearance, while an asterisk (*) means an item won’t be restocked at that location. However, they clarified that the asterisk alone doesn’t mean clearance, but often signals that the product won’t return.
New Membership Scanning Policy Sparks Reactions
Costco’s updated membership card policy, introduced in late August, has also sparked debate among members. The change requires shoppers to scan a valid membership card upon entry. Emilio Gonzalez, a Costco member in Winter Springs, Florida, shared his frustration on Facebook, noting that the policy took effect in his local store this week.

While the policy aims to curb non-members from accessing the store—particularly those looking to take advantage of Costco’s famous food court—some shoppers have expressed discontent over the stricter entry requirements.
The Iconic Costco Food Court Tradition Continues
Costco’s food court, which began in 1984 with a hot dog vendor at its San Diego location, remains a beloved staple today. Known for its $1.50 hot dog combo, the tradition lives on across Costco’s over 600 stores, offering an affordable bite for members and food court fans alike.
