According to The Sun , Eligible Americans could receive up to $11,000 as part of a settlement from a data breach that impacted Ardagh Glass in 2021. The company has agreed to pay $2.75 million to resolve a class action lawsuit, although they have not admitted to any wrongdoing. The lawsuit claims that Ardagh Glass failed to adequately protect the personal information of its employees and their dependents during a criminal ransomware attack on its network.
The breach, which occurred between April 23, 2021, and May 19, 2021, affected over 5,300 individuals. Those eligible for the settlement may be able to claim up to $11,000 for out-of-pocket expenses related to the breach. These expenses could include costs due to fraud or identity theft, professional fees, credit expenses, and other related charges. Additionally, claimants can receive compensation for up to five hours of lost time, compensated at a rate of $25 per hour.
As part of the settlement, Ardagh Glass has agreed to strengthen its cybersecurity measures, including enhanced training, improved data security policies, and increased monitoring.
To be eligible for the settlement, individuals must submit a valid claim form by November 27, 2024. Claimants will need to provide proof of the expenses they incurred as a result of the data breach, such as receipts, account statements, credit reports, and tax returns.
