As part of this settlement, affected individuals may receive payments of up to $10,000, provided they have the necessary documentation.

The class action lawsuit arose from claims that hackers gained access to sensitive client information through unauthorized file transfer activities. Plaintiffs allege that Orrick failed to implement adequate cybersecurity measures to safeguard their data. Although the firm did not admit to any wrongdoing, it agreed to the financial settlement to resolve the lawsuit.
Payment Structure
Under the terms of the settlement, class members can claim various cash benefits, including:
- Lost Time Payments: Reimbursement for up to five hours of lost time, compensated at a rate of $25 per hour.
- Expense Reimbursement: Up to $2,500 for ordinary expenses incurred as a result of the data breach.
- Identity Theft or Fraud Claims: A total of up to $7,500 for any losses related to identity theft or fraud.
The maximum payment any individual can receive is $10,000. Alternatively, class members may choose a one-time cash payment of $75 if they prefer not to pursue the reimbursement options.
Additional Benefits
Residents of California will be eligible for an extra payment of $150 under California’s Consumer Privacy Act. Furthermore, affected individuals will receive three years of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services.
Eligibility Criteria
The settlement applies to individuals who received a data breach notification from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe between March 2023 and December 2023. To qualify for the settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by October 28.
